The first ever Kumbh Mela in USA, held on September 10th 2006 in Bren Center, UC Irvine to infuse collective positivity and peace was a grand success. Various spiritual organization participated in the mile long procession, carrying idols of their chosen dieties and gurus. An estimated 4000 people marched for peace and harmony on the eve of 9/11 anniversary, according to a report in Los Angeles Times. The procession was a sight to watch with colorful umbrellas, banners, enthusiastic people, chanting mantras and dancing to the tunes of bhajans.

 

The procession ended at Bren Center where the energized dieties was immersed in a portable pool of water collected from 21 holy rivers of India, admist holy sounds of mantra chanting. The water was then sprinkled on participants.

 

The event ended with powerful inspiring short speeches by the spiritual leaders of organizations that participated in the grand Kumbh Mela procession, followed by bhajan singing by Anuradha Paudwal.
